Most of us want to lose weight and get fit. Starting an exercise program or joining a gym always seems like a great first step but if you have ever spent any time at a gym you will notice that not everybody there makes progress on his or her goals. It is not being at the gym that helps you to get fit but it is how hard you work at that makes the difference.

You are going to have to break a sweat in order to see any real results from an exercise program. You will need to get your heart rate into the training zone and make sure that it stays there for a time. There have been some studies in the past that have shown that exercising for longer periods of time at a lower intensity will actually burn more fat than carbohydrates. However good that sounds unfortunately it does not translate to fat loss.

Burning fat as you exercise is important but not nearly as important as just burning calories. For example if you are doing a cardio workout and you keep your heart rate at the lower ranges for 60 minutes you may burn 350 calories but if you do that same 60 minute workout and add in some high intensity interval training or HIIT, you will burn closer to 750 to 1000 calories. So which one will help you lose the most weight?

HIIT or high intensity interval training is probably the most effective fat loss tool that you can add to your program. The plan is to get your heart rate into the target zone and then maximize it for 30 to 60 seconds at a time, taking your heart rate up to 905 or more of your max, and then let it come back down and repeat. By doing HIIT you can actually cut your cardio workout time in half or more and still get better results for fat loss.

To get a rough idea of your maximum heart rate, take your age and subtract it from 220. Then take that number and multiply it by 60% and 80%. This would give you a target heart-training zone. This is the zone that you need to keep your heart rate at during your cardio training in order to see the best results.

If you want to lose weight and drop fat for the long term, you will need to gain muscle. That means that you should pump iron. Muscle is a biologically active tissue. That means that you will burn more calories just in the process of living if you have more muscle on your body. Fat is basically an inactive tissue and it will not help your body to burn any calories at all.

But the most important aspect to getting results at the gym and losing fat actually happens outside of the gym. It has been said that 6-pack abs are not built at the gym but rather they are built in the kitchen. Diet is the most important aspect of any plan. You can exercise all day long but if you have a poor diet you will not see any results. If you want to get into shape, make sure that you are consuming healthy nutritious foods on a regular basis and that you are avoiding the junk and nutritionally empty foods that are so prevalent in our society.

You can achieve maximum fat loss by following these few fundamentals. Incorporate some challenging HIIT into your cardio routine, follow a good weight-training regimen and improve your diet. You will start seeing the results before you know it.

The latest diet to hit the world is the pH Miracle Diet. Different diets appear to come and go as noted by experts. The low-fat diets were all the rage in the 90s. In the 21st century however, low-carbohydrate diets such as The South Beach Diet, The Atkins Diet, Sugarbusters and Protein Power all experienced popularity. When someone fails to lose weight after trying one diet, they will move on to the next diet. That next new diet is the pH Miracle Diet.

Turning completely away from the high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets of the immediate past, the pH Miracle Diet offers a new appeal. Robert Young took nutrition to another level and created the pH Miracle Diet which is also known as the Young Diet or the Alkaline Diet. Holisitic doctors and nutritionists seem to agree that this new diet looks at what the body actually needs and is well-balanced.

The human body has a bit of an alkaline pH. We know our body works at this pH, so it makes sense that any foods we ingest should also be slightly alkaline. Right now, most Americans ingest acidic foods, such as animal proteins, sugars, caffiene and other processed and packaged food. The acidity of these foods tamper with our body’s pH and cause problems in our body. The acidic foods change how our bodies handle alkaline minerals according to those who support the pH Miracle Diet. These minerals are sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium and can all correlate to chronic diseases.

The pH Miracle Diet revolves around this concept. Nutritionist and nuts agree that anything a person puts into their body contributes to how a person feels and their overall . Mainstream doctors will certainly advocate a well balanced diet that includes fruit, vegetables, proteins and dairy products; but the pH Miracle diet goes beyond this. The diet stresses how ingesting acidic foods will eliminate essential minerals from your body. By adhering to the pH Miracle diet, a person is not eating dangerous foods that can wreak havoc on their bodies.

A lot of common foods are not allowed on the pH Miracle diet. Wheat and wheat products are a banned food prouct on the diet. You are probably wondering why as many, including the FDA, consider whole wheat products to be healthy. The pH Miracle Diet shows that grains such as wheat, oats, rice and millet are actually acidic and are harmful to our bodies. Only alkaline grains such as buckwheat, quinoa and spelt are encouraged.

Diary products and meats are also not allowed on the pH Miracle Diet. Goat milk is slightly alkaline so you can have some of that. To get protein you can eat beans, tofu, nuts and seeds. Except for mushrooms, most vegetables are alkaline and are promoted. Grapefruit, coconut, lemon and lime are the only vegetables allowed.

Positive changes to your are felt within the first few weeks, as noted by those who have begun the pH Miracle Diet. It is good for your body’s to cut down on processed foods and increase the amount of vegetables you eat, whichever diet you follow. In fact, critics of the pH Miracle Diet claim if you are already eating fresh foods and drinking and adequate amount of water then starting the diet will not benefit you further. But these critics are not looking at the aspect of balancing acid and alkaline levels.

There are no concrete scientific testing results on the pH Miracle Diet and many mainstream medical doctors do not see any advantages to the diet. The theories behind the diet are rooted in holisitic and Chinese medicine that have existed for hundreds of years. These principles are being tested right now at the Johns Hopkins’ University and by Dr. Neil Solomon of the United Nations. The results from these may cause critics of the pH Miracle Diet to eat their words.

Everything should be pre-planned, so prepare your meals in advance as well. Freeze and refrigerate as necessary. You should be eating every two to three hours but NEVER wait until meal time to decide what to eat. Making meal decisions on an empty stomach will always lead to over eating.

Your exercise routine needs to work well within your lifestyle and personality. Normally, 30-60 minutes first thing in the AM - on an empty stomach - is best. But if you need to do 2 or 3, 15 minute sessions spread through the day that’s OK. That is enough to get some terrific benefit if done right. Morning, lunch, evening…doesn’t matter. The whole point is to consistently do it, not when.
