Our skin has a number ways of telling us how old we are getting and few are more noticeable than dark circles under our eyes. Treating these saggy, under eye bags is a challenge many of us struggle to overcome.

There is so much pressure today to look younger, we see celebrities who have an assortment of surgeries and procedures costing thousands of dollars just to look and feel more attractive. Bags under the eyes are an obvious symptom of aging so if you’ve given up trying the latest and greatest solutions to roll back the years, maybe youre interested in some alternative solutions.

The first place to start is to change a few bad habits and develop better, healthier ones. Its essential to adopt a strict regimen of healthy behavior as part of your plan. Over the years it becomes easy to neglect the bodys ability to repel harmful toxins and substances. So just think of your routine as your way of helping your body and skin realize their potential to be effective for as long as possible. Each day you execute your healthy routine, you’ll be adding years to your skins and help keep up its glow.

Here is a short list of things you can do on your own or find in your home to incorporate into your daily routine to help reduce the appearance of dark circles under the eyes:

Grate a cucumber and squeeze juice into a cup. Dip 2 cotton balls into juice and place one over each eye for about 15 minutes.

Use a potato in the same process.

Get at least 8 hours of sleep a night.

In a bowl mix lemon juice paste, tomato puree, orange lentil flour (masoor dal) and turmeric powder.

Apply with a qtip to dark circles, leave on for 15 minutes, and then wash off completely.

Stay away from bleaches and peels that claim to lighten skin.

Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day.

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables.

Find ways to reduce stress like practicing yoga.

In the morning, tap the skin under your eyes lightly with 1 or 2 fingers. This will increase blood flow.

Dont scratch the skin under your eyes. If you have to, lightly dab it with some cold water.

Dip 2 cotton balls in rose water and lightly dab around your eyes.

Place 2 cold cucumber slices over your eyes.

Our bodies are sensitive and respond quickly to changes in levels of vitamins and minerals. So try focusing on practicing a healthy diet and if you decide to use a cream or serum to clear dark circles, make sure those products contain natural ingredients.

I encourage you to try these at home and you’ll find your dark circles will disappear over time and your face will become brighter, healthier and younger looking!

Caring for the skin around the eyes isn’t a new topic. Women (and now, men) have been looking for solutions to their eye problems for generations.

At one time, herbal and plant extracts had been replaced by synthetic/chemical-based ingredients. The herbal and natural treatments which once used to be commonplace lost popularity in favor of highly commercialized and scientifically-created treatments.

Everyone wants results and no one wants to wait for them. We all want the solution ‘right now.’ Unfortunately, with some of the fast fix ‘manufactured’ treatments came preservatives and even cancer-causing elements.

Even commercial natural eye products had to be mixed with preservatives in order to maintain their shelf-life, which potentially made them more harmful than the homemade versions.

However, it seems that things are changing fast and consumers are now opting for more natural, organic and herbal products.

The green movement has brought many to search for more organic and natural ways to solve their eye skin problems, including eye wrinkles and under eye bags.

So what are proven ingredients that are being used in todays premium market that are non-oil-causing and non-irritating? Here are a few:

Aloe vera, the extract from the Aloe plant, is a great example of a beneficial herbal solution. The use of aloe vera is a natural way to hydrate and sooth the skin. Aloe vera is also helpful in healing burns and cuts.

Many herbs have cleansing properties. Rosemary, chamomille and dandelion are examples. Their beneficial properties are expanded when they are combined with other herbs like green tea.
